RE: The tariff classification of N-Methylmaleimide (CAS # 930-88-1) from Japan
Dear Mr. Chivini:
In your letter dated April 11, 2000, you requested a tariff classification ruling.
N-Methylmaleimide, also known as 1-Methyl-1H-pyrrole-2,5-dione, is a nonaromatic carboxyimide-function compound used as a chemical intermediate.
The applicable subheading for N-Methylmaleimide will be 2925.19.9000, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS), which provides for Carboxyimide-function compounds (including saccharin and its salts) and imine-function compounds: Imides and their derivatives; salts thereof: Other: Other: Other….. The rate of duty will be 3.7 percent ad valorem.
This ruling is being issued under the provisions of Part 177 of the Customs Regulations (19 C.F.R. 177).
